As a Quantitative Analyst Climate at RaboResearch you develop geospatial models and data pipelines to quantify physical and transition climate risks, translate hazard projections into climate risk indicators, and deliver sustainability insights with risk teams, scientists and AI tools.

You & your role

As Quantitative Analyst Climate at RaboResearch you are crucial in understanding climate-related risks and impacts.  Your work includes (geospatial) climate and sustainability analysis based on large datasets (e.g., on the comprehensive datasets of physical risk of a changing climate projections, transition risks). You will be part of the team that delivers data for Rabobank’s Climate Risk assessments and climate impact analysis. 

Examples from practice

  • Assesses the financial impact of climate change by analyzing the rising frequency of extreme weather events and longterm climate trends using scenariobased climate data covering acute and chronic risks.
  • Partner with risk teams, the business, and climate scientists to turn hazard projections into actionable insights.
  • Produce sustainability insights for clients by leveraging generative AI to efficiently extract key data points from client reports.

Top 3 responsibilities

  • Develop geospatial models and data processing pipelines to assess risk and impact of natural climate hazards, such as floods and droughts, under various climate scenarios. Combining geospatial data from different sources to estimate the current and future probability of impactful events across multiple regions in the world.  
  • Use your extensive knowledge in (geospatial) climate modelling, and quantitative research skills, to work in a cloud-based analytics environment to produce climate risk indicators, but also support in broader sustainability analytics such as using AI to assess company sustainability performance 
  • Engage with scientists and external initiatives to stay up to date with the latest developments and collaboratively steer them to align with Rabobank's needs.  

Use geospatial analytics and climate data to deliver concrete insights on climate risk and impact for Rabobank’s global activities, connecting science, data and decision-making in daily practice.

You & your talent

  • Master’s degree or PhD in environmental sciences, geosciences or a related quantitative field.
  •  At least 3 years of relevant experience in climate science, environmental modelling or sustainability analytics.
  • Strong programming skills (Python is preferred) are a must.
  • Experience in geospatial data analysis (with GeoPandas/xarray and/or ArcGIS).
  • Solid grounding in climate science and environmental modelling.
  • A solid foundation of data science and Generative AI is a plus.
  • Experience working in cloud environments, preferably Azure (Databricks, DevOps) and version control (Git) is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience of working in climate change and sustainability would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate research results effectively by translating complex information to clients and stakeholders and strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships within and outside RaboResearch to capture and translate requests from internal stakeholders to research questions
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in Dutch is considered an advantage.
  • To be considered for this position you must be located in the Netherlands, re-location is not possible for this role. 

This is what we offer you

  • Salary: Gross monthly salary between EUR 4,931 and EUR 7,043 (scale 09) for a 36-hour work week.
  • Extras: a thirteenth month, 8% holiday allowance, and a 10% Employee Benefit Budget.
  • Development budget: EUR 1,400 development budget per year for your growth and development.
  • Hybrid working: a balance between home and office work (possible for most roles).
  • Pension: decide for yourself the amount of your personal contribution.
